The hype following this book did not meet the actual content。 I was a little disappointed， though I didn't really know what to expect。 I thought the writing was fine， physically descriptive， repetitive and materialistic， which is exactly the picture I am sure that Jane Austen was trying to capture。 I just didn't enjoy it all very much。 It is hard to write these kinds of societal， bridgerton-esque stories， because you can't fully immerse yourself in the world without seeing all the fashion and de The hype following this book did not meet the actual content。 I was a little disappointed， though I didn't really know what to expect。 I thought the writing was fine， physically descriptive， repetitive and materialistic， which is exactly the picture I am sure that Jane Austen was trying to capture。 I just didn't enjoy it all very much。 It is hard to write these kinds of societal， bridgerton-esque stories， because you can't fully immerse yourself in the world without seeing all the fashion and delicacies， and the subtle hints in people's gestures and words。 If the story was told in less words， it might've been more impactful。 I mean I was 300 pages in and the only thing that had happened was Mr。 Collins hitting on Elizabeth （and she wasn't even his first choice bye）。 I think that the romance was incredibly boring， however， I was not upset that Mr。 Darcy and Elizabeth ended up together。 I thought that I would be， but there was crucial character development in Mr。 Darcy， that made him suitable。 It was necessary for the ending， and I'm glad that Jane Austen included it。It is just hard to read about how much women depended on men for money， happiness and prosperity in that time period。 How they rejoiced and threw parties when available men would come to town。 And how they didn't even realize how turned around it was， they just smiled and had good manners。 Most all of the women in this story were portrayed in terrible lights except the two eldest sisters， and the author even went as far to saying which girls were pretty and which girls weren't。 Ugh it's just painful。 。。。more

Like many others， I did not expect to love this book as much！ Though it was difficult to get into （the first chapters did not make me want to continue at a faster pace， really）， the further into the book I got the more I enjoyed it！ Putting it in its historic perspective， I think there is much to pick out from and think about as well。Would certainly recommend！
